3D-Printing Homes

A quick check online (as of the time of writing) for the price of an Apple iPhone 14 Pro suggests that you can get one of these for about US $1000. What if you could get one for just over $6? Would that make sense?

Let’s shift from phones to homes. As of August of 2022, the median price of a home in Austin, Texas, was just under $650,000, according to Realtor.com. However, there is a company that says it can build a home for $4000. As a percentage, that’s similar to the phone numbers above.

Why Austin? Let’s take a look at this promo video from 2018:

What kind of changes could it bring to a community if nice, simple houses became far more affordable?

What does a home cost in your area? What would it mean for families to have the opportunity to buy homes like this?

Now consider the numbers above. What does $4000 really mean for these homes? Is that what they would sell for? If not, what would you have to know to get a better price point?

Take some time to talk with your family about costs of housing. What might you learn?
