Believing in Others
Everyone around you is a complex mixture of all manner of experiences, challenges, and hopes. People can seem one way, and yet hold promise for something far greater.
Some of the people you know are also people who can see past what’s on the surface.
In this video, Dwayne Johnson speaks powerfully of how much of a “punk” he was, but it was clear that inside him there was something impressive, with the courage to apologize for his behavior as evidence of that. That was evidence the coach understood.
It would have been easy for that coach to write off a “punk.” It’s also easy for us to write off others we don’t like.
Have you had a moment where people saw you one way, but you knew that there was much more to you than they thought?
Have you had a moment where you realized you were wrong about someone else? What helped you understand your mistake?
The people in your life who show you patience are people who, like Johnson’s coach, can change the course of a life.
