Super Thoughts Video Contest
Your Creativity to the Rescue!
We at NextVista.org work to help students and teachers share creative approaches to learning, and as part of that effort, we invite you to take part in this educational video contest. Those who have participated in our contests before will be familiar with the general format. This time around, however, there are a few new pieces. Read on!
How does the contest work? Put a little creativity into a video teaching any concept one might encounter in elementary, middle, or high school, and keep it to 90 seconds or less. It can be about sculpture, negative numbers, supply and demand, alternative energy, adverbs, or anything else for which you have a clever insight. Read the full rules, and if you click in the right place, you can get some hints.
This is really three contests: one for students, one for teachers, and one for collaborations between the two (as when students plan and/or act and the teacher edits). These get judged separately, and we'll be passing out prizes to the finalists and winners of each.
If you're looking to do everything possible to help your submission make the finalist tier, carefully read the rules, the hints, and the scoring guidelines. Then, use the checklist to make sure you've queezed every last point out of us you can.
Deadline
Each video and its entry form(s) must be submitted by 11:59p on Friday, April 25, 2014. There is a small bonus in scoring for those videos submitted by 11:59p on Friday, March 28, 2014.
The Prizes
All finalists receive: Certificates! A gift card! International glory! This last piece is a bit abstract, but hopefully of value to you. 8^)
But that's not all:
1) The best stop-motion piece earns a site license for the great software from iCreate to Educate.
2) If you create your video using WeVideo's online editor, you may win a GoPro HERO3+. Give their tool a look and go for it!
3) We're looking to encourage volume in this contest, and will give away another Sony Xperia S Android tablet. Any school that submits at least three videos of sufficient quality to be added to the library will go into a drawing for that way-cool tablet.
Rules
Simple. You can't be a finalist unless you follow ALL the rules. Click here for details.
Sample Videos, Encouragement, and Some Fine Print
Here are the student finalist videos, teacher finalist videos, and collaboration finalist videos from earlier contests. We encourage you to give them a look to gather ideas.
Get creative, craft your video carefully, and submit it as early as possible, as we give you feedback to make it better. Hopefully you'll not only help others learn something, but win a prize, too!
Ownership
The ownership of any video submitted to NextVista.org is retained by the student or teacher who creates and/or submits it. This person gives Next Vista for Learning the right to post the video and use it to promote the efforts of the organization, including posting on Next Vista's YouTube channel. If one who creates and/or submits a video to NextVista.org wishes the video to be removed from the library, he or she should write Next Vista for Learning and explicitly ask that specific videos he or she has submitted be removed. Any request will be honored within four weeks.
