Fascinating Folks: Three Pilots and a News App
In this episode of Fascinating Folks, we’ll meet Craig Nugent, Steve Pegoraro and Michel De Jong.
Three COVID-grounded pilots found themselves with time on their hands, an oversaturation of news, a need to use some of their transferable skills, and, most importantly: an idea.
The Daily Edit
The Daily Edit took flight to provide a platform to help people understand and analyze the news, and also improve critical thinking skills. The two main services The Daily Edit is built to offer include a news aggregator/quality rating app (using machine learning), as well as a manual reviewing application (user-driven).
The Daily Edit founders think their idea can:
- Help teach media literacy – students could do manual reviews using the reviewer app to understand omissions and annotations
- Enable students to critique their own work, or compare articles within the class
- Ensure their writing is rigorous and passes The Daily Edit test.
The Conversation
On Wednesday, September 22nd, Craig, Michel, and Steve joined a group of teachers and educational consultants to discuss the possibilities of this new app. Watch the recording here:
