ACSA Region 6 Video Contest
What would you say when someone asks you about your school? Yes, your staff cares about kids, but what is a program or activity that energizes and inspires your students? Could you share the story of that program so that children in other schools would benefit?
One of the keynote speakers for the 2019 ACSA Region 6 conference is Rushton Hurley, founder of Next Vista for Learning and author of the book Making Your School Something Special. Hurley has worked with schools around the world to foster and share stories of schools’ successes, and all ACSA Region 6 administrators are asked to work with their teams to produce one or more simple, short videos describing a program or activity that you are proud your school offers.
The goal is to help tell the stories of the Region 6 schools, and inspire others near and far to make great things happen for their students.
Your story may bolster efforts at other schools that help bring hope and possibility to students in need of inspiration, so powwow with your team and share your story!
Framework
Videos will be shared on NextVista.org and in its monthly newsletter to (a) show how schools are practicing good digital citizenship by following the rules described below in sharing their stories, and (b) inspire other schools to bring better opportunities to their students.
Rules
Using any tool you wish (Adobe Spark, WeVideo.com, iMovie, Premiere Pro, etc.), create a video of no longer than 45 seconds. After the 45 seconds telling the story of the program/activity, you may use up to another 30 seconds for credits (see below).
Use only visuals (images, artwork, footage) your staff and students have taken/recorded. You may not use images from other sources for this contest, even if the images are public domain or Creative Commons-licensed. In the credits at the end of the video, cite your sources, providing names or initials of those who contributed the visuals for the video.
Use only audio that you have recorded yourself. You may not use audio from other sources for this contest, even if it is public domain or Creative Commons-licensed. Music and sound effects from video or audio editing software may be used, but must be cited at the end of the video.
How to Submit
Submit the video by uploading it to Google Drive, Dropbox, YouTube, Vimeo, or similar, and send the link to videos@nextvista.org along with the school name, a contact name, and an email address. Videos must be downloadable by Next Vista to be eligible for the contest.
For every entry received by April 15, 2019, Mr. Hurley will provide feedback to help you improve it. Final entries are due by the end of day on May 3, 2019. In addition to creating one or more videos that help tell the stories of your school for your community, the top videos will be recognized at the ACSA 6 conference in June and shared with teachers around the world.
