Video Prompts: Wildfire Science And Prevention Project

Welcome! We’d love for you to create a video that can help others your age learn about wildfires: what they are, why they do what they do, how to prevent them, and what to do if your community is threatened by one.

Start by watching some of the videos in our library of prompts, below. Choose one to “interpret” – that’s when we ask you to try making a video with the same information, but in a way that you think is even more interesting for people your age.

We have some strict rules related to any media (audio, images, footage) that isn’t something you create yourself. Follow the guidelines on this page so your video can be included in the project.

When the first draft of your video is ready, get feedback on it. What do others (your teacher, others students, your family, perhaps even people who work in firefighting, forestry, or similar) think of what you made? Do they have suggestions you might use to improve your video?

Watch this page for more prompts and more information about submitting your videos. If you have questions, you can contact us.

Next Vista for Learning thanks CAL FIRE for the support needed to launch this project and build a template for helping students across California and everywhere face and respond to threats like wildfires. The people of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) are dedicated to the fire protection and stewardship of over 31 million acres of California’s privately-owned wildlands. The Department also provides varied emergency services in 36 of the State’s 58 counties via contracts with local governments.
